Hello readers! Welcome back to my blog! Today will consist of more about the best holiday of the year! Only 13 more days! However, today I will be telling one of my favorite Christmas stories. Some may call it a miracle. My absolute favorite thing about Christmas is baking cookies with my mom, dad, brothers, grandma and grandpa. We do this every year, but last year was unique. My grandma is one of the most important people in my life and last year, on November 13th, I received some terrible news. I received news that my grandma had a large spot on her leg that was red and hot. She knew is was a bad infection and it was growing by the minute. My mom informed me that she and my grandma were rushing her into the ER, trying to fight time. They knew that they longer it took, the more the infection was growing. They finally got there and the doctors immediately began to inspect my grandmas leg. At first, they were convinced my grandma had an extremely rare and serious flesh-eating bacteria in her leg that could eventually take her life. This was very arming news and they informed us that they were drawing a circle around the visible infection and if in an hour when they came back, it had grown outside the circle, they would rush her into surgery. My whole family had now arrived at the hospital because doctors told us it may not be good. A long hour passed and the doctors were back in, discovering that the infection had grown immensely. They rushed her into surgery. We waited and waited for many hours, until finally the surgeon came out to tell us that she was hopefully going to make it. They had cut through many layers of her leg, only leaving muscle and bone. They had to remove everything else because the infection had taken it over. They told us if my grandma made it through the night, it would take her almost a year to recover from this intense surgery and infection. Well, my grandma was a fighter and she made it through the night. The next day, we were finally able to see her and she was the same bubbly old lady she was before the surgery. I was so happy, I cannot even explain it. I do not know what I would have done if I would have lost her. She continued to be a fighter, and worked extremely hard to get strength back. She became so weak from staying in the hospital for over a month, she lost so much muscle. It was then December 14th, two weeks until Christmas, and we had not been able to do our annual Christmas cookie bake. I was devastated. It was my favorite part of Christmas. We got news that my grandma would be moving to a rehabilitation center, becoming one step closer to home. She got there and worked for hours everyday on physical and occupational therapy, trying to get back to where she previously was. I prayed every day she would be able to make it home for Christmas. Then, on December 22nd my mom informed me that my grandma would be bake to come home the next day. That day would be December 23rd, which was just in time for Christmas. I was ecstatic. We moved her home the next day, and we still had two days till Christmas. Just enough time to squeeze in the cookie bake. That next day, on Christmas Eve, we were able to bake cookies all day long and enjoy countless laughs and memories. It was a cookie bake I will never forget. I will never take that day for granted and will continue enjoy every cookie bake with my grandma I can get. This made me realize how extremely thankful I have to be for my loved ones and the things we do together because so much can change in such little time.
These are the three types of cookies we bake each year:
